Marking fruits and vegetables

D+E GmbH has technically enhanced a natural method to mark produce without the use of chemical additives, packaging material, or stickers. The new fully-automatic EcoMark NB 3002 laser machine removes only the pigments of the outer peel (image) without affecting food quality or taste. Natural branding is a response to more stringent organic food regulations. The NB 3002 increases productivity through automation. It marks single products or entire boxes. Labelling times are possible in as little as 0.3 seconds per logo. The new user-friendly software allows a different product setting to be configured with just a few clicks. Marking takes place “on the fly” without stopping. The NB 3002 can be integrated into existing operations to achieve substantial time savings.

Sustainable like cardboard, functional like PET

Developed by Carton Pack Srl, Cartonpet Tray is an eco-sustainable alternative to conventional PET containers for fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut foods. The tray is manufactured using an innovative material with a very low specific weight, resulting in packaging that weighs up to 50% less than normal PET. The functional and mechanical characteristics of the Cartonpet Tray are equal to those of PET containers. Made of 80% recycled material, the new packaging material is as eco-friendly as containers made of paper or cardboard. The bubbles in the material’s core enhance the cardboard-like colour. The material has a remarkably smooth surface to facilitate vivid graphic reproduction.

Aliplast SpA

ALIPLAST_pariThe Veneto-based concern has decided to double its presence at the fair. In addition to the traditional stand at Ipack-Ima, they have decided to also add a station at Ipack-Mat, considering that event’s vocation for innovation. Aliplast will focus on service innovation, showcasing not so much new products as a now tested business formula,
which beyond supplying packaging materials, also makes the customer a potential supplier by buying the waste materials generated by their packaging at the end of its life cycle. Innovation consistent with the new corporate structure of the company.

Since 1982, the company, which is based in Opedaletto di Istrana (TV), has been producing heatshrink PE film and rigid PET film for thermoforming, using material which it recycles in-house, often collecting and selecting the waste byproducts of other packaging producers.
In 2017, the acquisition by HERA Group was finalized: 80% owned by the HERAmbiente Group, Aliplast represents the distinctive element in the industrial waste treatment offer, which is in line with the principles of the economy circular. An element that allows to offer reliable and integrated solutions, able to complete and close the virtual circle of sustainability: from the withdrawal and treatment of plastic waste deriving from production waste and scrap, up to regeneration of new products. Aliplast believes that showing its own products – especially how it  obtain sthem and the environmental savings this guarantees – in an area reserved for innovation can inspire potential users to adopt the circular economy model, which is the new frontier for packaging producers. With its products destined for the European market, Aliplast supplies PE film to the construction/building industry as well as producers of canned and bottled products; the rigid PET film, on the other hand, is aimed at producers of tubs and blisters in both food and non-food.

Almaverde Bio frozen foods now in compostable bioplastic

For the first time in Italy, Fruttagel proposes a “revolutionary” packaging for the full range of Almaverde Bio organic frozen vegetables, in line with the needs of consumers, who increasingly prefer compostable and environmentally friendly bioplastic packaging.
The new biodegradable packaging bears the Ok Compost logo under UNI EN 13432: 2002, on the basis of certification released by the European body Vincotte, which documents both the entire packaging production chain – from the granule producer to the printer – as well as Fruttagel for the packaging phase.

The graphics of the new Fruttagel packaging highlight a clear reference to nature and and feature an image-icon created to communicate the pouch’s compostability to the consumer: after using the frozen product, the packaging should be disposed of as domestic organic waste or as industrial compost on a collective level.
The full range of Fruttagel organic frozen foods in the Almaverde Bio brand 450 gr pack will be available on the market as of December 2017.

* Fruttagel is a Cooperative Company from Alfonsine (RA), the leader in the integrated production and processing of organic fruit and vegetables, the founding partner of Consorzio Almaverde Bio and brand licensor for the production of frozen vegetables, tomato pulp and puree, nectars and fruit drinks as well as vegetable drinks.

Stories in bottles

6 short tales covering 6 historic events or icons of the past in “Stories in a Bottle” of the Nuceria Group. A label format editorial project, that reveals itself in a narration made of words, colors and very special effects. APP included.

Marilyn Monroe, Sir Winston Churchill, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Revolution, Prohibition and the English spy represent the concept of champagne, beer, wine and vodka labels; icons that turn into symbols for an editorial project devised to show special label printing and finishing techniques up to the augmented reality applications.  And it is indeed in an App, devised and created by Nuceria, that the novelty of the project lies: “recognizing” the bottle, it activates different levels of augmented reality, involving the user in a new purchasing experience.
The changes that digital technology has witnessed and is still witnessing over these years impose a serious reflection on the mode of interaction with the users of the same. And if up to only a few years ago digital could be considered the prerogative of but a few, today it is a pervasive reality that touches on all fields of knowledge, the economy and our way of running an enterprise not to mention education.
In other terms, the border between digital support and reality has got ever thinner. It is along this fine border line that augmented reality is positioned, that entails the overlapping, within the same visual field, of two informative layers, one real and the other virtual.
The integration of the two, done via a device, enables the obtainment of a greater “layer” of information and enables a better interaction with the surrounding environment.
«Stories in a Bottle is more than a marketing operation. Over the years we have understood that each and every bottle “preserves” something special: the story of the product and the producer» Guido Iannone, General Manager of Nuceria Group explains. «Thus the label becomes the incipit of this story, a window on a narrative universe ready to be “drunk” at  first sight. Indeed, behind a great label there is always a great story, and it is that story we wish to help tell».

SET UP IN 1986, NUCERIA GROUP  Is today a multiplant industrial concern of European standing, producer of integrated packaging (labels, cases, flexible packaging and printed consumables). It offers its customers the experience of a team of over 300 people to achieve solutions suited for all applications and for all kinds of substrate, aboveall green and sustainable.

Envelope Project: beyond the label

Designed to give new impetus to innovation in the packaging label field the Envelope Project is  born out of the passion and expertise of Eurostampa and the strategic partners of Innovation LABels (Avery Dennison, Sun Chemical, Luxoro for Kurz, HP, Heidelberg and Esko). Thanks also to the involvement and the already established cooperation with the University of the Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo (brainchild of Eurostampa and Pollenza university the Laboratory of Creativity has been operational since 2012, Ed.), students were called upon to create graphic sketches for the production of labels. Inspired by Feuerbach’s phrase “We are what we eat” (cit., 1862), this year young people were invited to think about “We are what …” being free to conclude the phrase as they see fit, while bearing reference to the eno-gastronomic field in which they move and of which they have a multidisciplinary knowledge as well as to  the values and products on which Eurostampa’s work is based.

The end result is a sample of labels, with a strong ethical and aesthetic impact: innovative and personalized solutions, a sure inspiration for brand owners who, working in context  profoundly changed compared to the past, recognize that the label now no longer just has a commercial function, but a truly social role. Emblematic on this point the talk given by Carlo Petrini, President of Slow Food International and of University of Pollenzo, which enrich the reflection with new values: «… Labels must inform. And sometimes they can even educate or train. A good label can change the world, make it better, favour the less protected, bring citizens to make more informed choices».
During the presentation of the projects – which took place in Monte Carlo on 3 October in the Salle de Presse of the Grimaldi Forum of Luxe Pack 2017 – Jana Kokrhanek, Luxoro’s CEO also intervened: «We had the opportunity to be protagonists of a project to innovate and empower packaging in the food & beverage sector.
Our mission is to be able to give the final customer the emotions that conjure up the deepest essence of the product».
In the photos, a selection of projects.
